Welcome to our Web Site. The
Club was founded in 2002 we are based in Rathmore Co. Kerry a mere
twenty minutes drive from Killarney. The area is almost surrounded
by mountains with The Paps and Caherbarnagh to the South the Boggeragh
Mts. to the East and to the West tower the Macgillycuddy Reeks all
within a thirty minutes drive. The core of our members comes from
the East Kerry and North Cork areas. We go hill walking every second
Sunday mainly in the Munster area with the odd sortie to other regions,
with meeting points in Rathmore and Killarney. Juveniles (under
18) are welcome but for safety reasons a parent or guardian must
accompany them.
After two introductory walks, walkers with the approval of the
committee must decide on joining the Club. Please note anyone wishing
to join the Club must contact the Club before turning up for a walk.
The walk leader has the right to refuse anyone who is not adequately
equipped for the mountains. Minimum requirements would be a strong
pair of hiking boots, waterproof jacket, leggings, adequate
food and liquid, a more detailed list will be provided on joining
the Club. We encourage car - pooling and the normal practice is
€5 per passenger for a radius of 35 miles and €10 for
a journey outside 35 miles. The Club has it’s own Constitution
and rules, we are affiliated to the Mountaineering Council of Ireland,
members receive Civil Liability Insurance (plus Limited Personal
Accident cover) and a quarterly magazine The Mountain Log. We encourage
members to take out personal insurance. We also publish a Newsletter
and encourage members to contribute to it. The Clubs membership
year runs from the 1st October to the 30th September.
